First Snow

Winter came too quickly,

 

Freezing the earth with frost-bitten fingers.

 

Yesterday it was a breezy fall day,

 

Leaves clumped up by the curbs on the street

 

Yet somehow I woke up to a blanket of white,

 

Because winter rushed in while I was asleep.
